Investor Calls on Cambodia’s Justice Ministry to Address YY Capital Dispute
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — A shareholder in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally requested Cambodia’s authorities to intervene in a high-stakes dispute involving the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei, citing alleged financial misconduct and breaches of trust.
In letters sent to the Ministry of Justice, the investor asked for official support to “ensure justice,” claiming he suffered losses due to embezzlement, fraud, and other improper actions linked to Yamada, a Japanese national leading the company’s board.
The investor alleges that several real estate transactions in Cambodia were manipulated with inflated purchase prices, and preliminary reviews suggest that around $4 million may have been misappropriated for personal gain and for others connected to Yamada. The letters further claim the creation of fictitious business transactions, including loans exceeding $7 million, alongside document forgery and large-scale cash transfers routed through shell companies associated with Yamada and his collaborators. Some of these funds were reportedly moved to an overseas account in the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.
According to the letters, Yamada allegedly established shell companies in Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Cambodia, using nominees while retaining direct control over the companies’ bank accounts and financial dealings.
In Cambodia, prosecutors have filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and other parties, and court orders have led to the freezing of certain assets and bank accounts. The letters note that investigations are also underway in multiple countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, examining allegations of embezzlement, money laundering, document forgery, and breaches of trust.
The investor emphasized the need for a thorough investigation and expressed concern that suspects might attempt to interfere with the process, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence if authorities do not act decisively.
Cambodian authorities have yet to release an official statement on the matter, which continues to unfold across multiple jurisdictions.
